Breastfeeding may be “natural,” but that doesn’t always mean it’s easy!
Many families have questions regarding positioning, latching, sore nipples, engorgement, infant feeding and sleeping patterns, plugged ducts, mastitis, low or high milk supply, slow weight gain, pre/post surgery for tongue and lip tie, pumping, supplementing, going back to work, nursing “strikes,” weaning and more.
My job as a lactation consultant is to help you achieve your personal breastfeeding goals, whether that means nursing exclusively, bottlefeeding or somewhere in-between.
I offer consultations in my office or in the comfort of your own home. Initial appointments last 1 ½-2 hours, subsequent sessions are one hour. A typical consultation includes: a thorough discussion of your questions, concerns and goals; assessment of mother’s and baby’s health histories; assessment of baby’s ability to breastfeed; assistance with positioning and latch; a comprehensive, individualized plan of care that addresses your specific needs; referrals to other healthcare providers or community resources as necessary. After each appointment, I provide a written summary of the important points covered during the session, along with helpful links and videos. Brief follow-up phone calls and texts are free of charge.
In addition to meeting with families one-on-one, I teach a variety of classes and workshops on breastfeeding-related topics, such as “Breastfeeding Basics for Expectant Parents,” and “Breastfeeding and Going Back to Work.”
